Introduction
By the time students enter class XI, they should have a respectable level of language ability in English, and the course’s primary goal is to promote higher-order language abilities. The higher secondary stage will serve as a stepping stone for many pupils into the university, where a reasonably high level of English proficiency may be necessary. The upper secondary stage, however, may serve as a stepping stone for admission into the professional world for a sizable other group. By fostering both the language abilities needed for academic study and the language abilities needed for the workplace, the Core Course should be able to serve both groups.
